What Is the CEFR?
A Global Standard for Measuring English
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the internationally recognised benchmark for language proficiency. Originally developed in Europe, it is now used by universities, employers, immigration authorities, and language schools worldwide — including in Australia.
The CEFR defines six proficiency levels — A1 through C2 — each with clear, observable learning outcomes. Virtual English courses cover A1 through C1, giving learners a structured, progressive path from complete beginner to advanced proficiency.

What We Are — and What We're Not

We believe in being completely clear about our relationship with Cambridge.
Virtual English delivers its own online English courses using Cambridge EMPOWER materials. Cambridge Assessment English does not deliver, manage, or assess these courses.
This means:
Your course is taught by Virtual English instructors, not Cambridge
Your Virtual English certificate is issued by Virtual English upon course completion
The Linguaskill test is a separate Cambridge Assessment English product — results are issued directly by Cambridge
We use Cambridge EMPOWER materials under appropriate licensing to deliver our curriculum
