Accessibility Statement

Last updated: July 2026

Virtual English is committed to ensuring that our website and online courses are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that all learners deserve equal access to quality English language education, and we continually work to improve the accessibility of our digital experience.

1. Our Commitment

Virtual English is committed to providing a website and learning environment that is accessible and inclusive in accordance with the Australian Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) and the guidelines set out by the Australian Human Rights Commission.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments.

2. Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define three levels of conformance: Level A (minimum), Level AA (standard), and Level AAA (enhanced). This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partial conformance means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

We are actively working to improve conformance across all pages. If you experience any barriers, please contact us — your feedback directly informs our accessibility improvements.

3. What We Are Doing

To support accessible access to our website and course content, Virtual English:

  • Uses clear, plain-language content throughout our website and course materials
  • Applies consistent heading structures to aid screen reader navigation
  • Ensures colour contrast meets or exceeds WCAG 2.1 AA minimum ratios
  • Provides text alternatives for non-text content where possible
  • Designs course content to be navigable by keyboard as well as mouse
  • Reviews new content for accessibility before publication
  • Welcomes feedback from students and visitors to identify and address barriers

4. Technical Specifications

The Virtual English website relies on the following technologies for conformance with WCAG 2.1:

  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • JavaScript

This website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers (including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom and text resizing tools
  • High contrast display modes

5. Known Limitations & Alternatives

While we strive for full accessibility, some limitations may exist:

  • Third-party content: Some course tools and embedded content (including the Cambridge Linguaskill Test platform) are provided by external parties and may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We encourage students to contact those providers directly for accessibility support.
  • Video content: Some video materials may not yet include full captions or audio descriptions. We are progressively adding these.
  • PDF documents: Some downloadable resources may not be fully optimised for screen readers. Accessible alternatives are available upon request.

If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please contact us and we will do our best to provide an accessible alternative promptly.

6. Feedback & Contact

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the Virtual English website and our course platform. If you experience any difficulty accessing content, encounter a barrier, or would like to request accessible materials, please contact us:

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days.

7. Formal Complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility concern, you have the right to lodge a formal complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC):

8. Assessment Approach

Virtual English assesses the accessibility of this website through the following approaches:

  • Self-evaluation: Regular internal reviews of new and existing content against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria
  • User feedback: Ongoing review of accessibility feedback received from students and visitors
  • Automated testing: Use of accessibility evaluation tools during website development and updates

9. Review of This Statement

This Accessibility Statement is reviewed annually or whenever significant changes are made to the website. Virtual English is committed to continuous improvement and will update this statement to reflect progress made. It was last reviewed in July 2026.
